Callout for helpers – Wildlife signs
The OCC have a number of portable signs related to helping us manage wildlife here at The Cape for situations such as:
- injured wildlife
- wildlife crossing
- swooping birds
- koala alert
These signs are put out as needs arise by neighbourhood volunteers. We want to thank the current volunteers, and we are looking for more volunteers, particularly in Stage 2 (for oval and central wetland) and Stage 5.
If you are currently a volunteer, please reach out to the committee and let us know that you’d like to continue.
If you are not currently a volunteer and would like to be, also reach out to the committee.
Callout for OCC participation
The OC’s AGM is our periodic opportunity to get new blood on the committee, and to let others who have generously served stand aside. Serving on the owners corporation committee (OCC) is a great way to get involved deeply into your community. So, as always, we’re looking for people to volunteer.
We meet monthly, usually at the home of one of the members. Committee business typically includes things like:
- Projects. The OC has various small projects and initiatives on the go. For example, one of our big successes in the last year has been the replacing of the faulty EV charger;
- Liaising with stakeholders. There is often matters which need us to coordinate with lot owners, the OC manager, the developer, the maintenance crew, the Farm committee, CPRRA, council, or even VicPol;
- Disputes and complaints. As in any community, from time to time we deal with complaints and concerns;
- Social. The OC organises community social events and working bees.
At the moment the committee has seven members, but numbers can go higher or lower. The current committee members are:
- Richard Keech (chair)
- John Godfrey (secretary)
- Heather Allen
- Robyn Shallard
- Kate Lewer
- Dries Swerts
- Romano Studer.
If you’d like to be involved, please don’t leave it till the day of the AGM. Reach out to the OCC via email, or have a quiet chat to one of the committee.
Committee members are chosen at the AGM. If there are more nominations than places then there is a vote. However, there is generally no competition, and nominees are generally accepted onto the committee unopposed.
AGM
Another reminder that this year we are planning to hold the AGM of the Owners’ Corporation on Friday 18 July at 4pm at the Cape Paterson SLSC.
If there are any matters you think need discussing in this forum, please discuss with the committee as soon as possible.
The meeting papers were sent to all lot owners on Friday 27 June by email.
Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever
We are going to have our very own Cape Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever?
It works out at about 30 mins of inspired lunacy. Dress up in a red frock, put on some emerald eyeshadow, and dance on the wily windy moors to Kate’s amazing 1978 song about the ill-fated Heathcliff and Cathy.
It’s a joyful public spectacle. Normally nobody gets hurt. This is being organised by our very own Louisa Connors, who has organised the Newcastle MWHDE since 2016.
It’s an all-Kates event that also welcomes Hounds of Love.
The event will be held at the amphitheater at The Cape at 3pm – 4pm on Saturday 19 July. An event page for the event has been created here.
There are lots of YouTube videos so you get the idea – here are a couple:
Social Happy Hour
Reminder that there will be a social get together for residents of The Cape on Saturday 12 July from 4pm – 6pm at the display home (2 Trumpeter St). BYO drinks and nibbles. This will be a great opportunity to meet and welcome new residents.

Cape Paterson expansion news
In case you missed it, the expansion of the Cape Paterson town boundary north of Seaward Dr has been overturned, as reported here and here. Many Cape residents are, no doubt, very happy at this news.
Referral incentive
Did you know that the developer has a referral incentive?
The way it works is:
- Introduce the developer to someone who might be interested in joining The Cape; and
- If they’re not already in our database as of today, and if they purchase a lot, then you’ll receive 2% of the sale price as a thank-you!
It’s that easy! Plus, you’ll enjoy the added benefit of having another friendly face in the neighbourhood, all while helping to grow our sustainable community. If you have someone in mind, call Marie on 0407 435 011.
Report on Nature Journaling workshop

On Saturday 21 June (winter solstice), the Cape Community Farm ran its 4th Masterclass session at the Display House, with the topic
being Nature Journalling. Nature Journalling is the practice of drawing or
writing in response to nature. It’s an opportunity to immerse ourselves in nature, while calming the mind and increasing our attention to details and beauty.

Robyn organised and ran the session, with two of our residents sharing their knowledge and skills on the day: Tom led us through some artistic techniques including the profound differences between HB, 2B
and 6B pencils; and Kate shared some Mindfulness skills and associated health benefits followed by a Mindfulness experience.
The class certainly had some of us working on letting go of our inner critic
that has created barriers to our creative self. This was followed by a
journalling experience in nature as we explored with curiosity and wonder, capturing this in our visual art diaries.
A highly engaged group of 10 enjoyed the experience, with one participant reflecting on the enjoyment of “…the chance to connect with people, and to learn how to embrace slow-paced mindfulness through observation
and artistic impressions.”

Regular social events
