Holiday wishes

As we see the last of 2025, the committee would like to wish everyone a great Christmas and holiday break.

Aquathon

The CPSLSC’s 2026 Cape Paterson Aquathon is planned for Sunday 18 January. The course remains unchanged from last year. The run part of the course crosses The Cape estate as shown below. Runners enter and leave The Cape via the path at the south east corner.

The event is a 400m surf swim and a 4.4km run. If you would like to register for the event see here. The event is Leg 1 of the Bass Coast Series.

Contact person. The Cape’s contact person for matters regarding the event is Dries Swerts.

Volunteers. The CPSLSC are looking for volunteers, mainly to act as marshals. If you would like to help, please reach out to Dries (0404 183 173).

Booking sheet

Just a reminder that we have a booking sheet to help coordinate access to the bowls green and the pickleball court. If you would like access to the booking sheet to let you make reservations, please contact the committee.

Note that the booking sheet also has the code to the lock to get access to the bowls green. This code was changed earlier this year.

NYE catch up

The next committee-organised social event will be new-years eve at the amphitheater. Look forward to seeing you there, picnic-style from about 6pm.

Security

This year The Cape has been at the receiving end of a couple of alarming burglaries. So, just another reminder to keep your home and cars secure in 2026.

Tool shed

A tool shed on common property was proposed by Greg Harland in 2024 and has been under consideration. The shed will serve to host:

  • community tools including the mower and the trimmer;
  • signs used by wildlife volunteers.

After much deliberation among and between the committee and the developer, a preferred location has been identified. OCC proposes a location adjacent to the north end of Summit Path near the car park in the location shown below.

The tool shed will be constructed in timber with dimensions and method very similar to the existing shelter over the nearby EV charger. It will back onto the existing garden bed at the back of the car park. The image below gives a rough impression of what we expect it will look like.

The tool shed will be built by the Cape’s very capable maintenance team early in the new year. If you have any suggestions or concerns about the proposed tool shed, please contact the committee.

EV charger update

Update. It has been a year since the old faulty charger was replaced. The new unit has been working flawlessly. It provides a single port of DC charging at 30kW. Since installation last December it has provided 562 charging sessions and is currently covering its costs.

Future. In 2026 we hope to expand to extend this with a public AC charger.

Discount for residents. We now have the ability to offer a 5c/kWh discount for residents of the Cape. If you would like to register for this discount, please contact the committee.

RFID card. Activating charge session is normally done via an app. For regular users, an alternative method is to use an RFID card. This makes activating charging sessions quicker. If you have an existing RFID card (say from another charge point operator), then we can register that for you. Alternatively, you can purchase an RFID card from the AEVA (Australian Electric Vehicle Association) if you are a member.

Bootcamp with Romano

Most CP residents know about the “Frollickers” – a collection of people that made it their pursuit to gather at First Surf Beach every morning at 08:00 and jump into the waves, no matter the temperature and conditions.

Noticing that not everybody is confident and fit to swim beyond the ocean break, Cape resident Romano Studer created a sub group that during the warmer months generally meets on Friday morning at 07:00 at Bay Beach. Somebody started to call it the boot camp. Wasn’t Romano, but it stuck.
The aim: to build up fitness and confidence via a small program of 20min running, 20min stretching and 15min swimming. Giving just enough time to, at the end of this, to cross over to First Surf for the Frollick. Anyone can come along. At minimum you will need to have enough swimming skills to stay afloat. But we set a very, very low bar!

So come along and try it! Wear a swimsuit and some comfy outfit. Just come to the beach on a Friday at 07:00.

Caveat. Romano wants to make clear that he has no formal education in all this. He is happy to invite you along and share a bit of wisdom every so often. It is provided privately and not an official activity of the owners corporation. It is provided on a no-cost-no-insurance basis.

Farm membership

The membership of the Cape Community Farm is available for all Cape residents. We hope you will consider joining. If you join now the cost is $50, pro-rata for the six months till renewal on 1 July. For information on memberships see here.

Mowing vacant lots

With a wet spring, and the weather warming up, the grass is leaping out of the ground. So, if you own a vacant lot, please remember to keep on top of your obligation to have the grass mown for the sake of fire/snake safety.

If you live at Cape and notice a vacant block that needs mowing, then we encourage you to reach out directly to your lot-owner neighbour. If you do not have their contact details, the OCC can facilitate an introduction.

Bin locks follow up

In the last newsletter we said that clips for fastening bins would be provided. Thanks to Denys, these have been distributed to all homes via your letterboxes. If you haven’t got your complimentary clips, please check your letter box. If you think you missed out, or would like extra (at $10 each), then please contact the committee.
