Cape Paterson Ratepayers and Residents Association (CPRRA) are running a working be on Cleanup Australia Day. See here for more info.

Bike Ride – Sunday 1st of March

The Cape Cycling Club’s inaugural ride will take place on Sunday 1st of March with a ride of moderate length, along the Great Southern Rail Trail, from Leongatha to Meeniyan.

Aquathon – Sunday 15th of March

This was postponed from 18 January, and was mentioned in the last newsletter. New date is Sunday 15 March. See here for more info.

Please note that organisers are still looking for volunteer marshals. If you can help, then please reach out to Dries via email (driesswerts@hotmail.com) or txt (0404183173).

Passata Day – Sunday 22nd of March

The Cape Community Farm’s great annual passata day is not to be missed.

Please note the change of date.

This is a ticketed community event. See here for tickets and more info.

Tree Pruning – Autumn

We have our estate trees professionally pruned about twice a year. The next one is likely to be in April or May. If you have any special arborial requests, now is the time to contact the committee.

Sustainable House Day – 17 May

Put this in your calendar if you are interested in sustainable homes. This is an event run annually by Renew. There are normally homes at The Cape open on the day. If you are interested in opening your own home see here.

Cape AGM – Friday 29th of May

This year our AGM will again be at the Cape Paterson Surf Lifesaving Club. Put the date in your calendar, and keep an eye out for more notices about this.

Pickleball booking system

The system for booking the pickleball court has, till now, limited bookings to one court. From now on it will be possible to book both courts for up to two hours. If you need access to the booking system, please contact the committee.

Design guidelines

There has been some concern expressed to the committee about an apparent increase in the size of houses being built here at The Cape. It is worth saying that:

  • there has been no relaxation of Cape Design Guidelines that apply to all; and
  • homes at the Cape are still small compared to typical new-build homes in Australia.

Cape Care Crew

Some resident volunteers, let by Duncan Bell, are forming a group to get more hands-on with the maintenance of the estate, in coordination with our professional maintenance crew. There has been an initial successful meeting between the residents’ group and the maintenance coordinator. Congratulations on this great initiative, and keep an eye out for more information.

Chat groups

Let us know if you maintain a community-related chat group and would like it promoted on our community web site.

Weathertop

Revegetation. There is a revegetation process underway at the west end of the Weathertop ridge. This includes some temporary fencing. Please stay out of the fenced-off areas while the vegation takes hold.

Verge. All around the estate we see a planted verge at the back or side of lots, where the lots adjoin common property. A similar verge will be established along the south side of the lots on Weathertop, where the lot owners want it. Particular care will be taken to make this planting sufficiently fire-safe. The first parts of this will be planted out in March.

Disabled parking changes

The main car park has two designated disabled parks. These are currently located at the south end. This location is not great because they are furthest from where visitors are likely to go. These designated disabled locations will be switched to the north end, opposite the EV charger. This new location will be more convenient for visitors with a restricted mobility.

Given the need for these spots is infrequent, this change will also assist people using the EV charger by making it easier for vehicles to reverse into place.

CPRRA geology walk

On 7 February, about 30 local residents participated in a very successful guided walk along the cliffs to explore and learn about the local geology. The guide was local Cape Paterson resident Professor Mike Hill.

Speed-limit changes

Note that the speed limits along the west end of Seaward Drive and the southern part of Wilson Rd are soon to be changed to 50km/h. This is expected in a March/April time frame. See here and here for more info.

Access track

Vehicle use. There seems to have been an increase in unauthorised vehicle use of the access track from the car park to the farm. Please don’t drive down this track without permission from the OCC.

Pedestrian cross over. It seems that some pedestrians using the access path through to Coral St are walking along the access track near the farm maintenance gate. This is risky because the track gets used by maintenance vehicles. Please directly cross over the maintenance track and stay on the footpaths to reduce the risk of an accident.

Bowls

We’re looking for a way to have the bowls green better used. From time to time we get inquiries from bowlers in Cape Paterson and surrounds who currently can’t access it unless they are visitors with a resident of The Cape. We’d like to ask if there’s a bowler with The Cape who’d be interested in being a “gate keeper” for these kinds of requests. Ideally something like you meet them face to face – perhaps over a game of bowls just to ensure that they’re real Cape Paterson residents & bowlers. Someone who actually bowls regularly is unlikely to damage our surface. Then we’d grant them access. None of the current OCC are bowlers, so we have no contacts inside the Bass Coast and surrounds bowls networks.

Tool shed

In the last newsletter we described how there will be a small shed built near the car park. Keep an eye out over the next couple of months as our professional maintenance crew work on this project. The shed will become the new home of the community lawn mower and related tools.
