Sports precinct

The Cape ecovillage offers a range of sporting and exercise facilities along with over six kilometres of walking and bike riding paths.

In 2023, the sporting precinct was unveiled including two pickle ball courts, a bowls green with two rinks, a half basketball court, a netball ring and a bocce court. These facilities are the private property of The Cape Community and some are available for use by residents and locals.

At this stage, the Bowling Green is only bookable for use by residents of the ecovillage and their guests (see below for more details).

Pickleball court number two, is available for walk up games (with a limit of one hour of play if there are people waiting).

Pickleball court number one is a bookable court reserved for use by The Cape ecovillage residents and their guests only (see below for more details).

We encourage everyone to enjoy the facilities and have fun and ask that you treat the area with care and respect and keep the place clean by taking any rubbish with you and shutting/locking all gates behind you.

The Cape Bowling Green

The Cape Bowling Green is a unique facility within the Cape Community. It is private property of the Owners Corporation and is available for use by residents of The Cape estate and their supervised guests.

There are two bookable bowling rinks and there are four sets of bowls for residents to to borrow and use.

For more information on how you can reserve your rink, please email the Owners’ Corporation Committee for initial access to the booking sheet.

As this is a valuable resource, there are a number of rules in place, which you are agreeing to abide by when you make your booking.

The Cape Bowling Green Usage Rules

General etiquette
* Be respectful. Treat our space like you’d treat your own home – with care and respect;
* Supervise kids. Children need to be supervised by an adult;
* No dogs. No dogs inside the fenced area;
* Hot surface. On a sunny day, the surface can get quite hot, so if it feels hot under your bare feet, keep your sports shoes on;
* These rules are interim and are subject to change.
* Lock up. Users are responsible for locking up both gates when they leave.

Hours of operation:
* The facility is available only between the hours of 9am and dusk (8pm in summer), unless by prior written arrangement with the OCC.

Care of the surface
* For bowls only. The bowls green surface has been crafted by experts for playing bowls on, so please don’t use it for other things, like parties or riding bikes inside the fence;
* Don’t drop stuff. As the playing surface can be damaged by incorrect bowling technique, please don’t drop or toss the bowls around.
* Bowls should only be rolled and shouldn’t leave your hand any more than a hand’s width from the ground (about ankle height).
* You can borrow our “bowling arm” if you find it hard to bend down low.
* Please don’t use excessive force when releasing your bowl;
* Footwear. To help protect the surface, please only wear flat soled shoes (like a sports shoe), socks, thongs or even your bare feet. Anything with a grippy, ridged sole could damage the surface by bringing rocks and debris onto it.
* Check footwear and remove any stones before you play;
* Food and drink. Spills can mark or damage the playing surface, so don’t eat or drink inside the fenced area (water is OK);
* No smoking. Cigarette butts and ash can damage the playing surface, so smoking is not permitted inside the fenced area;
* Wet weather. The surface can be damaged by playing when it is wet.
* Don’t play during the rain and wait at least half an hour to drain after the rain stops before resuming play.
* Remember that on a sunny day, the surface can get quite hot, so if it feels hot under your bare feet, keep your sports shoes on.

Patron Behaviour
* Keep the noise down. There are private homes nearby;
* Return any borrowed bowls;
* Keep our place clean. Take all your rubbish with you.
* Anyone found disrespecting the rules may have their access restricted.
* The name used for the booking must include a surname and a contact number.
* Limit per player/group per day is 2 hours.
* Keep usage fair and balanced. For example, booking all prime time slots weeks in advance (by one player/group) is not permitted
