Sports precinct

The Cape ecovillage offers a range of sporting and exercise facilities along with over six kilometres of walking and bike riding paths. In 2023, the sporting precinct was unveiled including two pickleball courts, a bowls green with two rinks, a half basketball court, a netball ring and a bocce court. These facilities are the private property of The Cape Community and some are available for use by residents and locals.

We encourage everyone to enjoy the facilities and have fun. We ask that you treat the area with care and respect, keep the place clean by taking any rubbish with you, and shut/lock all gates behind you.

The Cape Pickleball Courts

Court 1 is bookable by ecovillage residents and their guests for up to 2 hours per day. To book Court 1, please email the Owners’ Corporation Committee for access to the booking sheet.

Court 2 is available for walk up games with a limit of one hour of play if there are people waiting. Court 2 is also bookable by ecovillage residents and their guests for up to 2 hours per day. To access to the booking sheet, please email the Owners’ Corporation Committee.

The facility is available only between the hours of 9am and dusk (8pm in summer), unless by prior written arrangement with the committee.

Care of the surface:
1. We suggest following the Official Pickleball Rules.

3. If it has been wet, be aware of slippery conditions.
4. A broom is provided to sweep the court prior to use.

7. Please don’t party or ride bikes inside the fence.
8. Report any damage or misuse ASAP to the Owners’ Corporation Committee.

Patron behaviour:
1. Keep the noise down. There are private homes nearby.
3. Keep our place clean. Take all your rubbish with you.
4. Anyone found disrespecting the rules may have their access restricted.

Tips and tricks on how to play by Bowls Australia.

As the Bowling Green is a valuable resource, you agree to abide by the following rules when you make your booking.

The Cape Bowling Green Usage Rules

Please follow these rules to help protect our bowling green and community

General etiquette
1. Be respectful – treat our space like you’d treat your own home, with care and respect.
2. Supervise kids – children need to be supervised by an adult.
3. No dogs inside the fenced area.
4. Hot surface – on a sunny day, the surface can get quite hot, so keep your sports shoes on.
5. Lock up – users are responsible for locking up both gates when they leave.
6. These rules are interim and are subject to change.

Hours of operation:
The facility is available only between the hours of 9am and dusk (8pm in summer), unless by prior written arrangement with the OCC.

Care of the surface
1. For bowls only – the bowls green surface has been crafted by experts for playing bowls, so please don’t use it for other things, such as parties or riding bikes.
2. Don’t drop stuff – as the playing surface can be damaged by incorrect bowling technique, please don’t drop or toss the bowls around.
3. Bowls should only be rolled and shouldn’t leave your hand any more than a hand’s width from the ground (about ankle height).
4. Please don’t use excessive force when releasing your bowl.
5. You can borrow our ‘bowling arm’ if you find it hard to bend down low.
6. Footwear – to help protect the surface, please only wear flat soled shoes (like a sports shoe), socks, thongs or even your bare feet. Anything with a grippy, ridged sole could damage the surface by bringing rocks and debris onto it.
7. Check footwear and remove any stones before you play.
8. No food or drink on the green – spills can mark or damage the playing surface, so no eating or drinking on the bowling green.
9. No smoking – cigarette butts and ash can damage the playing surface, so smoking is not permitted inside the fenced area.
10. Don’t bowl in the rain – the surface can be damaged by playing when it is wet.
11. Don’t play immediately after rain – after the rain stops, wait at least half an hour for the green to drain, before resuming play.
12. Remember that on a sunny day, the surface can get quite hot – so if it feels hot under foot, keep your sports shoes on.
13. Report any damage or misuse ASAP to the Owners’ Corporation Committee.

Patron Behaviour
1. Keep the noise down – there are private homes nearby.
2. Return any borrowed bowls.
3. Keep our place clean – take all your rubbish with you.
4. Anyone found disrespecting the rules may have their access restricted.
5. The name used for the booking must include a surname and a contact number.
6. Limit per player/group per day is 2 hours.
7. Keep usage fair and balanced – for example, booking all prime time slots weeks in advance (by one player/group) is not permitted.

The Cape community thank you for abiding by these rules and we hope you have a great time.
